Tuesday’s Guitar Slinger honors go to living legend, instrumental guitar master and virtuoso, Joe Satriani. Satriani has earned the respect of legions of guitar players in the industry, and even taught many of them how to play guitar including: Kirk Hammett of Metallica, David Bryson of Counting Crows, and Kevin Cadogan from Third Eye Blind. Not to mention his good friend and former G3 member, Steve Vai. Satriani even has his own Ibanez series guitars (JS series), amps, straps and picks.
Here’s an awesome live video of Satriani that was recorded May 2, 2006 in Anaheim, CA. It’s part of the Satriani Live 2-disc live CD set, and was released in conjunction with a 2-disc DVD set with the same title and of the same concert. The song featured here, ‘Ten Words’ was reportedly written by Satriani on piano on 9/12/01 as a reflection of 9/11. He later came back to it and released it on the 2006 album, Super Colossal, on which he collaborated with former Deep Purple bassist Glenn Hughes and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. Super Colossal also contains the ever popular ‘Crowd Chant’ heard at Minnesota Wild games, and is used widely across the the NFL when teams score a touchdown.
Enjoy a little Satch here … who knows, you may feel the need to boogie!
Satriani released his 16th studio album ‘What Happens Next’ on January 12th, 2018.
