Well here we are in October and ’tis the season for all things that scare. I mean scary events planned–not the weather!
(POSTPONED… TO OCT. 19) The 13th Annual Great Pumpkin Festival was to take place on Sat. Oct. 12th at Gregory Park in Brainerd from 1:00-4:00, but it has been rescheduled (due to forecasted weather) for Sat. Oct. 19th, 1:00-4:00. It is FREE! It’s open to all ages, but children must be with an adult. Enjoy games, bouncy slide, food, face painting and more! The event is hosted by the City of Brainerd. The Northland Arboretum will once again be home to The Haunted Trail on Thurs., Fri., and Sat. Oct. 17-19 and be open from 7:00-10:00pm. Experience the haunted thrills and chills of The Beasts of Brainerd as you walk the low scare and high scare trails in the dark woods of the Arb. Tickets before Oct. 14 are $10…after the 14th and at the door, tickets will be $13. They are also asking guests to bring donations for the local food shelf. For more info, call 829-8770. 5K INSANE BRAIN TERROR RUN, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 26
Race registration: 2 p.m. | Race begins: 3 p.m. | Awards: 4 p.m.–The golf course at Ruttger’s Bay Lake Lodge | $25 per racer.
Here’s what Ruttgers.com says about it: This is the spookiest 5K you’ll run all year! This costume 5k is a race through the picturesque, wooded course. Beware! There are zombies prowling the course and they’re hungry. If you make it through to the finish line with your brain intact, it’s party time! A beer (or non-alcoholic beverage for the kiddos) awaits you. Top male and female racers win prizes!
There is also the Zero-K Insane Brain Terror Beer Sit. You get a T-shirt, but instead of racing, you sit by the bonfire at the finish line and drink beer. I’m not sure what kind of fear factor is involved with that one. (that would probably depend on how much you drink)
The Haunted Hallows is back at Paul Bunyan land complete with the Backwoods Bayou. Its 7-10 on consecutive Friday and Saturday nights October 11-12,18-19-25-26. Get more on this one at Hidden-Hollows.com
I’m not much of a thrill seeker so I think I’ll hide over here behind the hanging chainsaws…and catch up with you guys later.
