This morning with the Loon Morning Crew the crew from Smile Fest were in the studio. We were able to talk to Jennifer Podsiadly- Community Relations from CRMC, Derek Owen- Public Relations with Brainerd Industrial Center and Eryk Haapajoki from CTC.
The conversation was about Smile Fest. It’s an event coming up next week on Thursday August 29th at the Brainerd Industrial Center on Mill Avenue in Brainerd. The event is free and open to all, and is presented in connection with the Smiles for Jake movement that encourages us all to talk about our mental health and how we’re feeling. We tend to have a lot of information on the Morning Show regarding how you can connect with your family and engage in positive thinking and behaviors, and so this is your perfect opportunity to broach the subject of suicide with the community by your side.
Smile Fest is going to be a great family event and everyone is invited to get out and have some fun! It runs from 4:30-7 with live music from Seth Doud and the Okee Dokee Brothers! The music will probably run until about 8 pm, with the evening also including free food and beverages for the first 1000 people attending. There’s going to be lots of fun for kids, including bouncy houses, various vendors, McGruff the Crime Dog, Rooty the Carrot and more!
This is an opportunity to come together and spread some smiles, high fives, and kindness while limiting screen time, and there’s a swag bag full of goodies for every family with some great information on community resources in relationship to mental health and suicide prevention.
