Sometimes in the Brainerd Lakes we find ourselves thinking that the big city and bright lights is where the arts community is thriving in the state of Minnesota. Or perhaps we look at various artistry on Instagram and think about someday traveling to Europe to visit this gallery or that one. Well, let this be a reminder of the great arts community that lives and thrives in the Brainerd Lakes!
There is a new exhibit opening at the Crossing Arts Gallery in Brainerd. It’s called Oil and Water and will highlight the contemporary works of Lonnie Knutson. The Gallery show will run from March 6-March 28 and it’s free and open to the public with hours running Wednesday through Friday 10 AM to 5 PM and Saturdays from 10 ‘til 2.
The press release describes the work like this: She gains inspiration from nature, which can clearly be seen through her choice of color pallet, as well as through the weaving of organic and geometric shapes throughout her paintings. All artists hope to grow, stretch and experiment during their lifetime of creating, and abstract painting is Knutson’s stretch now. This current body of work exemplifies that stretch, expanding our views of abstract contemporary art.
As part of the kick off to this exhibit there’s a reception on Friday March 6th from 5-7 PM. It’s a time to celebrate the artist and mingle with other art lovers. Just a free will donation for this kick off and there’ll be some light refreshments.
And we hope the next time you’re ready to create you’ll crank up the PowerLoon to get the juices flowing!
