A new ‘Babe’ statue has made its way into downtown Brainerd!
Babe the Waabigwan Ox will be located on the corner of South 8th Street and Laurel Street in downtown Brainerd. Members of the community are encouraged to visit this location at 3PM on Tuesday, September 21st, for the unveiling! Attendees will learn about the creation of the new landmark and its ties to the Brainerd community.
The original Babe the Ox statue was property of Nor-Son Construction, who graciously donated the ox to the Brainerd Lakes Chamber.
Babe the Waabigwan Ox derives its name from the Ojibwe word for flower. The artist, Brainerd teen Aiyana Bealieu, drew her inspiration of the colorful print from Ojibwe beadwork, tying the history and culture of Brainerd’s Indigenous people.
Josh Porter, owner of Avalon Studios and creator of the ox statue refurbished and applied the final clear coat.
