Gosh darn it, tell yer folks I says we’re busy on Friday, February 2nd next year. Comedian and best-selling author Charlie Berens has been announced as the entertainment kicking off the World’s Largest Charitable Ice Fishing contest next year. The Wisconsin-native will be performing at the Brainerd Jaycee’s Kickoff party on Friday, February 2nd at the Gitchi-Ziibi Center for the Arts in Brainerd. The Manitowoc Minute creator’s Good Old Fashioned Comedy Tour will begin at 7:30 P.M, doors open at 6:30 P.M. General admission tickets will be available for purchase on December 1st, 2023 for $45. For information on tickets and the event, go to icefishing.org/kickoffparty. Berens is expected to keep ‘er movin’ and make a weekend of it trying his hand at fishing during the Extravaganza the following day on Gull Lake’s Hole-in-the Day Bay.
This is a heck of a get by the Jaycees. Berens is a great compliment in addition to the thousands of men, women and children that will be on the ice for the Extravaganza. You can all but guarantee this event will end up in some way, shape or form into a few jokes for his future comedy sets. What great material if you think about it… “there I was, sittin’ on a bucket with thousands of people, fishin’, drinkin’ and freezin’. Floatin’ on top of swiss cheese watchin’ to see if my line moves.
