Brainerd Native Makes Opening Day Roster For The Miami Marlins

Former Brainerd Warrior Nick Anderson has made the opening day roster for the Miami Marlins. The road to the majors has traveled through Mayville State University, 3 years in the Frontier League then getting into the Twins organization. Nick had a nice AAA season in Rochester last year and this year completed the journey to the bigs with the Marlins.

Two memories of Nick come to mind for me in his early days. First an amazing performance in relief against the Sauk Rapids Rice Storm in 2007 that I was fortunate enough to call. Facing one of the best offensive line ups that I’ve seen at the high school level, Nick came on in the 6th inning struck out 5 of 6 and saved the game for the Warriors, he was un-hittable. Later that summer in Legion baseball Nick came to the plate for Brainerd and smashed a ball to left center against Nisswa, my son Andy Macdonald was roaming center field and made the best catch of his career and one of the best I’ve ever seen…to rob Nick of extra bases. I think Ray Austin’s Brainerd boys beat my ‘swa’ boys that day but not really sure. The boys of summer are back and here’s a huge congratulations to Nick Anderson.
