21 years ago a group of ambitious and dedicated people approached me to emcee an event in the Brainerd Lakes called the “Run for the Cause”. It was a test run, if you will, to see if the Susan G Komen foundation would consider the Brainerd Lakes as a site to host a Komen For The Cure event. Sadly, this year the Brainerd Lakes event has been cancelled. That makes me sad, of course, because of all the passionate people that continue to make it such a great day in the fight against breast cancer. BUT…We are all still in the race!
The Twin Cities Race for the Cure event is Mother’s Day! Click through at KomenMinnesota.org to sign up for the Virtual Komen for the Cure event! When you register for the event, you simply say you want to be on the Brainerd Lakes Team. You’ll get your shirt and race bib as usual but you’ll fulfill the race on your own course!
The most important thing is that we continue to fight breast cancer. Today and every day in Minnesota 2 more will die from this disease. And we of course all need to be diligent to get the checkups and mammograms that will keep us ahead of the game.
Social separation doesn’t mean we can’t walk the walk and run the run! So ask your friends and neighbors to sponsor your run. And then on Mother’s day, May 10th, hit the streets to celebrate your health, honoring those that have lost the battle and fighting the fight for those that live through it.
