The NHRA Nationals returned to Brainerd International Raceway this weekend and provided some unbelievable side by side drag racing.
Steve Torrence and the CAPCO team picked up the Wally in Top Fuel edging Clay Millican. Torrence continues to dominate the class with his 7th win of the season and his first ever win at Brainerd.
In Funny Car, the side by side racing was incredible all day. An early match up featured two of the all timers and fan favorites Ron Capps and John Force, Capps got the win and Force had to go home early. Matt Hagen and Cruz Pedregon ran great all day and met in the finals with Matt Hagan and his Mopar Dodge Charger capturing the title.
The race fanatics were everywhere and in a celebratory mood after having to miss the 2020 Nationals event in Brainerd. There were corndogs, cheese curds, cheeseburgers and t-shirts by the thousands, and I was told there was a beer tent as well. Track announcer Alan Rienhart is always a favorite. It was great to see everyone and thanks to all the racers who joined us on the PowerLoon Morning Show. Nice going BIR!
